THE ART OF LISTENING
Hebrews 4:2 says the word preached did not profit some, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 This word hearing means to think intently or meditate on. Jesus says he that has ears to hear, let him hear. Which means to listen attentively. Taking notes with pen and paper is still one of the most effective forms of listening.

TAKING NOTES
No business man, lawyer, or college student would walk into a conference room, courtroom, or classroom without the necessary essentials for taking notes. Why then shouldn't believers take notes in church today? Most people within 24 hours will forget up to 80% of what the speaker said if not written down. If you can't remember the message how then can your meditate on it.

TAKING ACTION
To those who already take notes, we commend you! However, research shows new information not reinforced within 48 hours will have little to no effect. Biblical meditation is the key.
Once you've taken notes; you then need to take action by meditating on what you've heard. This is the process of abiding in the vine. Jesus is the vine; we are the branches. If we abide in him and his word abides in us, we will bear much fruit. John 15:8

JOSHUA 1:8
Biblical meditation can best be understood by how we take medication: The doctor gives us the pre-scrip-tion, that typically states take 2 or 3 times a day. The preacher gives us the scritp-ture, which is our spiritual medication from God and should be taken more than once on Sunday. Joshua 1:8 says to meditate day and night, which means several times throughout each day. That we would not be just informed, but transformed by the renewing of our mind.
